remove AI from Google Search on Safari
It turns out that it is possible to remove the
AI
slop and other extra crap from the top of Google Search in the
Safari browser. These steps are based on a helpful
post on the Apple Community board.
Install Customize Search Engine from the Mac App Store.
In Safari, select Settings from the Safari menu, then select Extensions and enable CSE.
From the Applications folder, open CSE then click Default Search Engine. From Recommended Search Engines, choose
Google &udm=14
.
And that’s it. Works for me.
Don’t forget to turn off the built-in ad tracking feature: turn off advertising measurement in Apple Safari (Most people don’t know about it, and Apple makes it hard to find.)

The
Rise of Slopsquatting by Sarah Gooding. It refers to the practice
of registering a non-existent package name hallucinated by an LLM, in
hopes that someone, guided by an AI assistant, will copy-paste and
install it without realizing it’s fake. It’s a twist on typosquatting:
instead of relying on user mistakes, slopsquatting relies on AI
mistakes.
